Facilitator Training / Advanced Communication Skills Workshop

A 20-hour workshop in a group of 6 to 8 people.

This is an intense workshop, not a seminar. Much of the learning happens as participants take turns preparing for and facilitating (leading) a real discussion. They then practice the skills of appropriately giving and receiving feedback about how the session went.

Throughout the process, the instructor coaches the participants, and provides additional teaching and tips. At the end of the workshop, each participant will receive a detailed written evaluation of their current facilitative skill levels.

Who should take this workshop?

  • People who want to lead groups based on the Assertive Communication Skills model
  • Managers, negotiators, salespeople, or anyone seeking cooperation in small groups of people
  • Anyone who wants to foster a safe, non-judgmental environment and actively encourage personal sharing among individuals or groups

Learn to:

  • Draw quiet members in without putting them "on the spot"
  • Respectfully move the focus away from a talkative member
  • Diffuse and react constructively to criticisms and attacks
  • Bring a wandering group discussion back to the topic
  • Ask questions that invite others to think and share more deeply
  • Facilitate emotionally-difficult communications and honest feedback while protecting each member's dignity and viewpoints

Prerequisites:

Participants need to have taken the Assertive Communication Skills Workshop as a foundation for the Advanced Workshop.
